Laura Brogan randomly witnessed a friend practicing some yoga
postures when she was 18, and that moment was the spark that
ignited her practice. Three years later in 1999, Laura met
Kimberly Dahlmann and was introduced to the Ashtanga
lineage. Over the next seven years she came and went from
the Seacoast- practicing alone and in studios, around the
world, but always reconnecting to Kimberly's teachings and
the Yoga East community. In 2002, Laura had the supreme
blessing to practice with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and Sharath
for a week. Unable to stand up straight due to a lumbar
spine injury, that journey became a blessing- what had been
primarily a physical practice blossomed spontaneously into
an energetic practice. That same year, Laura completed the
primary series teacher training with David Swenson.
Laura is the mother of six year-old twins, Lucy and Aidan,
her greatest teachers. She agrees with Guruji in naming
family life "seventh series." Putting the mat down in a pile
of legos, or chanting with lots of giggling, has helped her
"lighten up" and truly absorb the gifts of the practice-
including "practicing to live" instead of "living to
practice." Bhavani Maki, and much more intimately, Karen
Rafferty, inspire a passion for the Yoga Sutras of Patanjai,
breathing life into the ancient Sanskrit words.
Currently, Laura practices Massage and Bodywork at GLOW
(Grow Life, Own Wellness) in York Village, Maine. Summers,
she teaches surfing through Liquid Dreams Surf Shop. She is
deeply grateful to Kimberly Dahlmann, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois,
Karen Rafferty, and all other fellow yogis and teachers
sharing this path. Namaste!
